What food is good for my cat?

As with all pets it is important to pick good food for your cat.  First step to picking a good food is to google the brand you want to buy.  Make sure that they are not on the list of foods that have poisoned our cats and dogs.  If you are unaware there is some real horror stories out there :(  If you are the type that can handle it look for yourself on YouTube (not recommended for you will not be able to un-see the horror once seen).

Moving on, the very most important thing (besides what i listed above) is to make sure that MEAT is the first ingredient fish, chicken or beef does not matter NOT A BY-PRODUCT, NOT CORN etc..
A MEAT.    If you have the time energy and know how the best idea is to make your own food.  If you are interested and cannot find a good recipe let me know :)
Reaserch EVERYTHING you put on in or around your pets!  Including flee meds, foods, toys, litter and houseplants.

Bringing home your new kitten

It is important that you introduce your new kitten or cat into the home properly.  Before you bring the kitten home set up a quiet room free of other animals and places to hide.  Probably your kitten will be rambunctious and ready to play, however this is a whole new place for your kitten.   Also they need to learn where all the important things are food, litter etc..   Keep the kitten in one room letting it out while you are with him/her for a little while each day.  Make the transition between the one room to the whole house slowly, take your time.  You will know when he/she is comfortable enough with their new home to enjoy it all.

Look for future post on how to introduce your pet to other animals.

Breeders should keep all cats isiolated for 30 days upon arrival.  Only after quarinteen and all health test, can they be around other breeding cats.

Cat ear cleaning Scottish Kilt / Munchkin Fold

A Side effect of  the Scottish Kilt cat is the lack of wide open ears like above.  The small folded ears do have advantages and disadvantages.  First the advantages they are small and pretty protected so they do not get dirty often.  The disadvantage is when they do get dirty they are hard to clean.

I use vitamin E oil, I take a q-tip and dip it in the oil and swab the cats ear.  Twenty min later everything in the ear is like soft butter and easily wipes out with a q-tip.  NEVER hold on to the ear to clean.  Gently insert the q-tip no farther than you can see and take your time.

Cat baths and cat breeders

While your cat my need a bath next to never, it is very important that the breeder bath kittens when they are very young.  Baths in general are never fun for a cat.  However it is important that the cat understands that it only sucks, you are not trying to kill it.  Therefor if your kitten has had a few baths by the time it comes to you, while they still will hate it.. They will not try to kill or climb you.

Best Cat Litter

The crystals if you can afford them are great.  However when you have many cats and are not made of money there is some great options.  First off I will never use clay again!  Feline pine is so much better but a little expensive.  The best option I have found is Equine pine or corn husk litter for horses, you can buy a 40lb bag for $3-$6.  The pine smells great and it is so cheap you can just dump it if you do not feel like scooping!

Scottish Kilt Kittens For Sale (Munchkin x Scottish Fold)

At this time it is hard to find a breeder of Scottish kilt kittens, and if you can find one the best way to get one is get added to the breeders waiting list.  First come first serve does not work here.  I have very few kittens the same for other breeders at this time.   The breeder will place the kitten where he/she thinks they will be provided for best.  They will pick the home that will spoil the kitten.   In other words Scottish Kilt breeders are not forced to place/sell the kittens to anyone with money.  The homes in which these baby's are placed are carefully chosen.

So let your breeder know about your home.  Let your breeder know you want to spoil and love a Scottish Kilt kitten.

Scottish Kilt Breeders

I only know of three breeders of these cats.  If you are a breeder and would like to be added to scottishkiltcat.com please contact me for more information.

Deworming

Scottish Kilt Cats and kittens are the same as all other domestic cats when it comes to deworming.  ALL kittens must be dewormed even if you just dewormed the queen before breeding.  Deworming sceduale is as follows 2, 4, 6, 12 and 16 weeks.  Than again at 6 months and yearly after that.

Scottish Kilt Kittens

When Scottish Kilt kittens are born they can come in many forms.  First ears, they can fold or not fold in every kitten, so you can have straight eared kittens.  Next legs, they can be short or normal (Standard or Non-Standard) both types will most likely be in every litter.  They can come in any color also with long or short hair.

How old will my kitten be when I can get it?

Dwarf cats are much like other cats.  Kittens should go to their new home at 12-16 weeks.  Most breeders say that the kittens will be ready at 12 weeks.  Some kittens take longer to ween.  Please be patient with your breeder when it comes to when the kitten is ready.  ONLY THE KITTEN can say when it is ready.  Also if the breeder wants to keep it for a few extra days than you know they care and are not willing to just 'git rid of' the kitten.  Always remember the kittens health is the most important thing.

Achondroplasia in kittens

Standard Scottish kilt kittens are Achondroplasic.  This means they have short legs.  The legs are about 1/3 the length of a normal cat.  Some/most when born, their back feet are curled in.  I will post pics my next litter.

Pregnant Dwarf Cats

Dwarf cat  or Achondroplasic cats carry kittens the same amout of time as a normal cat 63-65 days.

Parent Groups

Parent groups  Scottish Fold x Munchkin
The Scottish Fold is a breed of cat with a natural dominant-gene mutation that makes its ear cartilage fold, the ears to bend forward and down towards the front of their head, which gives the cat what is often described as an "owl-like" appearance.

The Munchkin is a cat characterized by its short legs, which is caused by a naturally occurring genetic mutation.

Munchkin (wonderfulkittys.com)
The Scottish Kilt also called the Gaelic Fold is a new breed, so new the breeders have not even settled on a name. They have short legs and folded ears. They come in a variety of colors and have a sweet personality.
At this time Standard kittens are hard to find. Most kittens are being put back into breeding programs.
